Fashion films: Artistic shorts

Many fashion ads are like all other conventional ads. However, more elaborate advertisements are also produced, mainly by haute couture big brands, which go beyond advertising a specific product. They tell us about the creative essence of the brand. Worth watching  because they are not only advertisements, they are art.

These fashion films usually have recognized directors, very interesting scenarios or performances and actors, actresses, models, etc … of prestige. They also have a more elaborate narrative behind, often with a message to be transmitted.

Frequently, the scripts are based on historical legends or anecdotes, or elaborated  stories with a great dreamlike and evocative content, generally according to the aesthetics of the brand itself.

These are some of my favorites. They are worth watching! I hope you enjoy them!

Miu Miu, “The Door” by Ava DuVernay

“Ava DuVernay is the first African-American director to win the Best Director Award at the Sundance Film Festival, and she signs this short film with Gabrielle Union in the role of a woman trying to recover from a sentimental break.”

Train de Nuit

Follow the romantic paths of Audrey Tautou on a night train to Istanbul. With Audrey Tautou and Travis Davenport, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Music : “I’m a fool to want you” (Frank Sinatra, Jack Wolf, Joel Herron) performed by Billie Holiday

Holi Holy por Manish Arora

“Holi Holy is an acknowledgment to the Varanasi widows who broke with an ancient tradition and celebrated the Holi festival for the first time last year. Winner of the ASVOFF Grand Prix, and awarded for Best Sound and Best Emerging Talent, this winning short film of the sixth edition of the first Fashion Film Festival organized by A Shaded View on Fashion Film, was directed by Bharat Sikka and conceptualized by Manish Arora. The Indian designer was also in charge of the styling and art direction of this video; starring the singer, actress and exceptional artist, Bishi Bhattacharya. “

La légende de Shalimar

“One of the most acclaimed directors of commercial shorts is the French Bruno Aveillan, who, of course, has been hired by the French cosmetic brand par excellence (Gurelain) to commemorate the 88th anniversary of its star perfume: Shalimar; and immortalize it with this fantastic video.

As a tribute to the legendary love story called The Legend of Shalimar. It takes us to the gardens of Shalimar (India), which were the scene of the love story between the Shah Jahan and his favorite, Mumtaz-Mahal (the jewel of the palace). Shah Jahan built Taj Mahal after her death, which devastated him. Shalimar is named after the gardens of Shalimar, the favorites of Mumtaz. “
